SIGMAT superstructure for Shetland school

A SIGMAT light gauge steel frame superstructure has been specified for a new three-storey school residential block in the Shetland Islands.

The bespoke frame was designed in conjunction with P.A.W. Structures and the main contractor, Morrison Construction, part of the Galliford Try Group.

The SIGMAT frame will create a 3-storey 100-bed residential block at Lerwick’s Anderson High School, the largest school in the Shetland Islands. The residential block forms part of a £55.75m contract to build a new school for 1,180 pupils.

A traditional hot-rolled steel ground to first floor frame is incorporated into the superstructure with light gauge steel used on the two upper floors. The first frame components will be delivered to site for installation work to begin January 2016.
